Kellyn King is a detective with the Simi Valley Police Department, where she is dedicated to the prevention and criminal prosecution of human trafficking by implementing trauma-informed practices and leading a collaborative, multi-disciplinary approach to achieve restorative justice for survivors. Recognizing that vulnerable foster youth were falling through gaps between child welfare, health, and public safety systems, she built a cross-sector working group across three Simi Valley short-term residential therapeutic programs. Through 75 hours of trust-building with youth and providers, the effort surfaced intelligence that helped identify and arrest exploiters and traffickers. Her work has shaped multi-agency operations navigating competing policies across jurisdictions to apprehend traffickers and recover minor victims.
