Public libraries are essential institutions, which is why we are so excited that the 82nd branch of the Chicago Public Library system will be located at the Obama Presidential Center.
The new branch will offer specialized programs and events for children, house a multimedia collection focused on civic engagement, conduct programming to engage community members, and offer spaces to learn and create, including the YOUMedia program (Opens in a new tab) for teens to explore the world and their own creativity.
The Obamas know from experience just how vital the Chicago Public Library system can be to children on the South Side. As Mrs. Obama reflects in this video, “I remember my first trip to the library and how important I felt...my library card was a key that unlocked a world of knowledge and experiences.”
You can learn more about the library branch at the Obama Presidential Center here, and see renderings of the campus. We can’t wait to welcome you in person.
