Mosa’s story

Watch how the Girls Opportunity Alliance helps close the gender gap in STEM through digital literacy training for girls.

A young girl, Mosa, sits at a classroom desk with a laptop branded with “Beyond the Classroom Initiative” and two girls sitting behind her. She wears a gray blouse and has her braided hair tied up with a purple hair-tie

Meet Mosa, a student from Mochudi, Botswana. Mosa grew up without a computer or access to the internet until she was connected with Botswana Organisation for Sisters Empowering Junior Associates (BOSEJA). With support from the Girls Opportunity Alliance, BOSEJA empowers adolescent girls through life skills, health, and mentorship programs.

Recognizing the challenges girls face in accessing technology, BOSEJA aims to close the gender gap in STEM by empowering adolescent girls through digital literacy training. As part of their Beyond the Classroom initiative, Mosa attended after-school training on digital literacy, coding and programming. She learned about technical skills and careers in STEM and now knows the different paths she could take.

Through this program, Mosa discovered her passion. “I want to become an engineer and help more girls in my village learn about technology,” Mosa shares. “BOSEJA has opened my eyes to new possibilities. I want to take the skills I’m learning and pay them forward to my village and to young women like me.”
