Executive Director, GODDESS Mentoring

Chicago, Illinois

Teirra Scott is the executive director of GODDESS Mentoring, an organization committed to empowering young girls and nurturing well-rounded individuals by helping them overcome societal barriers, foster their personal development, and promote community engagement. As part of her portfolio, Teirra created a curriculum aligned with national and state social-emotional standards, addressing students' pressing issues that would otherwise hold them back from advancement and academic success. This work led to a 37 percent decrease in middle school suspension rates for African American girls at the Chicago-based schools she was working at and was expanded to city-wide youth conferences serving over 300 girls across nine schools. Teirra envisions establishing youth centers as safe havens, fostering sustainable, empowering spaces for Black and Brown children in underserved Chicago communities.
