2024-2025 Obama Foundation USA Leader

Chief Accessibility Officer, New York State Metropolitan Transportation Authority
New York, New York
Quemuel Arroyo is the chief accessibility officer for the New York State Metropolitan Transportation Authority, the nation’s largest transportation agency. As the first person to serve in this role, he is on a mission to redefine accessibility and rebuild the entire transportation network into a universally accessible system. Quemuel’s personal experiences inspired him to pursue a career in universal design, accessibility, and public policy. In addition to his role at MTA, he also serves as a trustee of New York University and a board member of several nonprofits, including NYC Outward Bound Schools, Project Sunshine, and Hudson River Community Sailing. Quemuel wants to strengthen his ability to mobilize others around accessibility for MTA as a win for all.
