Marrissia Rochelle Jones is the director of program management at SHE Chicago, a nonprofit organization focused on empowering inner-city teen girls, particularly those who are Black, Brown, and transgender. The organization provides young women with social and emotional learning, community service opportunities, and college and career counseling. Schools that partnered with SHE Chicago saw a 95 percent decrease in disciplinary infractions and 80 percent of program participants who attended college tours and fairs are now enrolled in two- or four-year universities, with 100 percent acceptance into selective colleges. A first-generation college student, Marrissia is committed to providing equitable and diverse education experiences that nurture leadership and responsibility in marginalized communities and strengthening a culture of democracy by helping girls become civic leaders.
