Samatar is an energetic Somali who lives in Hargeisa, Somalia. He has a postgraduate diploma in peace and conflict studies, as well as a bachelor's degree in economics. Samatar is a Social Norms and Participations (SNAP) officer for Save the Children Somalia/Somaliland Country office. He has spent most of his career in the field of humanitarian organizations. Specifically, he has worked in the areas of child protection, women empowerment, and education.
